ABOUT US The African American Firefighter Museum in Los Angeles, California, stands today as the first and only free-standing museum dedicated to the African American firefighter experience in the United States. The Museum, open to the public since 1997, is located inside historic Fire Station No. 30 and is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The first of two segregated firehouses in the city, Fire Station No. 30 operated from 1924 until 1955 when the Los Angeles Fire Department was integrated. OUR MISSION The African American Firefighter Museum is dedicated to collecting, conserving, and sharing the heritage of African American firefighters through collaboration and education.
